I picked up this awesome little toy from salvation army yesterday for $8 and its already my favorite thing.
This is the String Ray a kinetic light show toy that produces volumetric wave form patterns that are controllable by adjusting the arms, pitch of the motor heads, the speed, frequency and it has a rotating colored light disk that bathes it in colored light at various speeds as well.
You can produce some very interesting designs and even get stop motion effects by setting the light speed to strobaphobic, etc. It reminds me very much on wave harmonics and cymatic patterns.
As soon as I started playing with it I realized it MIGHT even be a new addition to my 3D Video Game HISTORY research, as it IS a controllable volumetric electronic toy.. my experts are discussing on twitter right now 😂😂
What do you think? It certainly is a volumetric electronic game. I am most certainly putting it on my 3D Game shelf, next to my genuine volumetric display video game 👀
