Dollar $tore $t£r€0gRā₽h¥ #12. Viewmaster Reel Digitizer

A Viewmaster Reel Digitizer anyone can make using a coffee can and your smartphone!

This episode was actually a project made at the request of my twitter (& insta) friend Dave Wynn https://twitter.com/StereoSimian?t=3uNxld3dc7RNOQHPPgBmVg&s=09

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

  • Coffee can with a clear translucent lid
  • Battery powered push light
  • Thumbtack/Push pin- you might want to find something thick enough in diameter to the hole in the center of the reel, so it won’t jiggle around when you spin it. I used a Lego piece that had a 1/2″ length and 1/8″ width. You can easily cut a piece of a popsicle stick or a skewer with similar width.
  • A smartphone stand. I ended up using a selfie stick stuck in a wine bottle, but you can use any sort of smartphone holder that allows for a 90° downward facing capture that is completely parallel to the Viewmaster reel

Btw, I DO take requests! If you have a project you’d like me to tackle or a stereoscopic image creating problem you’d like me to help you solve, hit me up! I’d love to try to help you find ways to explore stereoscopic communication of any sort 🙂 I check the messages on my social accounts regularly, just hit me up on insta or Twitter 👌👌👌@parkitlikeitshot
