Dollar $tore $t£r€0gRā₽h¥ #4- SHADOWGRAPH THEATRE

Shadowgraph performances traditionally  leveraged passive, complimentary color differentiation in traditional Red/Green, Red/Blue or Red/Cyan ANAGLYPH formats to create stereoscopic imagery cast onto a screen, wall or other surface.

The traditional shadowgraph lens formatting is the opposite of what is modernly considered as to be the “correct” lens arrangement for anaglyph viewing today

In my research I have so far, found that ALL examples of projection anaglyph presentations, Shadowgraph performances and motion pictures originally were created for the RIGHT EYE RED LENS VIEWING STANDARD for ORTHOSCOPIC 3D VIEWS that date pre 1936.

The date is incorrect on this video, but this shows ORIGINAL ACTUAL FOOTAGE OF SHADOWGRAPH MOTION PICTURES DATING BACK TO 1915, WITH INTENDED RED LENS OVER RIGHT EYE VIEWING CONFIGURATION

This is the configuration that I continue to survive forward, to preserve this original intent for Shadowgraphs to carry forth the history and cultural heritage surrounding them 🙂 MY SHADOWGRAPH WORK WILL ALWAYS CARRY FORTH THE RED LENS, RIGHT EYE ANAGLYPH FORMAT & LENS CONFIGURATION

I have even made easy to follow icon sets that illustrate this which I now use in all my new posts.. an icon set ❤️💙👀 means red/blue or red/cyan anaglyph with the red lens for the left eye and blue lens for the right. An icon set 💙❤️👀 means blue lens left eye and red lens right eye.

SUPPLIES:

  • Red light source
  • Blue light source
  • A cheap white shower curtain OR a white wall to project onto
  • Red/Cyan or Red/Blue anaglyph glasses
  • A dark room

Any method of creating colored light sources will work for this project. Small red and blue LED lights work GREAT, as do red and blue colored lightbulbs (flood lights are ideal) covering two clamp lights or desk lamps with professional red or blue lighting gels.. use ones made especially for photography whenever using a dedicated plug in light source like a lamp, the bulb may be too hot and melt any other type of see-through colored material such as acetate for wrapping gifts etc. You CAN use acetate or even a pair of anaglyph glasses over a battery operated light source, like a flashlight, as I did in the video below.

HAVE FUN EXPLORING ONE OF THE OLDEST METHODS OF LIVE PREFORMANCE STEREOSCOPY AND STEREOSCOPIC AUGMENTED REALITY, DATING BACK TO THE EARLY 1900’s!

Here is the most recent presentation I made for National 3-D Day
This live Shadowgraph performance was filmed live by one of the attendees of the P-SSC 3D PARTY FOR NERDDDS #8. IT IS 💙❤️👀, RED LENS OVER RIGHT EYE ANAGLYPH CONFIGURATION
